چکیده

abstract Real-time artiicial intelligent systems are required to respond within a given deadline or to assure an optimal response time. Despite the success of anytime algorithm and approximate processing, more work is still needed, especially in order to address properly the guarantee response time problem. This paper presents a model, called GREAT Mouad-dib 92b], which combines progressive reasoning and approximate processing to guarantee response in short time limits. This model consists of a multi-level reasoning which builds up a solution progressively through diier-ent levels, from an approximate solution (at the upper level) to a more detailed one (at the lower levels).

A Boundary - Sensitive Approach toQualitative

Reasoning about the location of regions in 2-dimensional space is necessarily based on nite approximations to such regions. These nite approximations are often derived by describing how a region (the gure) relates to a frame of reference (the ground). The frame of reference generally consists of regions, or cells, forming a partition of the space under consideration. This paper presents a new a...

Usages of Generalization in Case-Based Reasoning

The aim of this paper is to analyze how the generalizations built by a CBR method can be used as local approximations of a concept. From this point of view, these local approximations can take a role similar to the global approximations built by eager learning methods. Thus, we propose that local approximations can be interpreted either as: 1) a symbolic similitude among a set of cases, 2) a pa...

Reasoning and Planning with Incomplete Information in the Presence of Static Causal Laws by Tu Huy Phan

REASONING AND PLANNING WITH INCOMPLETE INFORMATION IN THE PRESENCE OF STATIC CAUSAL LAWS BY TU HUY PHAN Doctor of Philosophy New Mexico State University Las Cruces, New Mexico, 2007 Dr. Son Cao Tran, Chair This dissertation extends the framework of the 0-approximation to handle domains with static causal laws. It is divided into three parts. In the first part, we present a sufficient condition ...
